** Future Meeting Information **

If you have not
heard by now our Home Base (Bogey’s Sports Bar & Grill) suddenly closed up
last month just a week or so before our June meeting was to be held. We had to regroup and hastily move our
meeting on June 22nd to Felix’s Fish Camp. We were able to contact all the guests that we had invited to
talk to us about their charities and all went well.
After some
discussions, a tour of their facility (really GREAT) we have informally picked
“Oysterella’s” Seafood Restaurant
as the Club’s new home. Of course we
will have a discussion with all our members and a vote before we can make that
“official”. Since our Causeway Cruise is
scheduled for July 12th we will not have a July meeting. So, our August meeting will be held on at
11:30 a.m. on Saturday August 16, 2008 at Oysterella’s. Their address is 1175
Battleship Parkway Phone is (251) 621-8881.

Upcoming
Club Events
Saturday July 12th is
the date for our “Causeway Cruise and Poker Run
/ Birthday Party”. Our Club’s tenth birthday will be celebrated as part of
the Causeway Cruise/Poker Run. The
American Cancer Society (ACS) will be the charity we will be sponsoring in
honor of our dear friend Susan Barnes.
The cost will be $10 per Poker Hand (Registration at the Door) and you can play as many
hands as you want. This event is open
to the public, so please get the word out and invite your friends and
co-workers. The
more the merrier and the better for ACS! Proceeds will be split to give 50% to
the ACS, 40% to the Best Hand and 10% to the Worst Hand. As recognition of our 10th
Birthday there will be some “special prizes” this year as well as a Silent
Auction.
Bogey’s closing has shook up our Causeway Cruise plans. Oysterella’s will be our Start & End location for the Cruise. The move has also altered our route (see
below) but we will still keep our other stops the same. We will start at Oysterella's, located on the West end of the Causeway, on the
North side (just East of USS Alabama), at 1400 (that’s 2 P.M. for you
landlubbers). At the conclusion of our “cruise”
we will return to the starting point for the big finale. The following is the list of places we will
go to for the Cruise/Poker Run. We
expect to spend about one hour at each place, ending up back at Oysterella's around 6 PM.
For newbies, all of these places are located on the
Causeway fairly close together (2 to 3 miles).

STARS
Fell On Alabama (SFOA) Update
On
Saturday June 22, 2008 a SFOA Board meeting was held at Bobby & Jackie’s
home in Mobile. This was the all
important “Band Meeting” where the entertainers for the 2009 event were selected
and assigned time slots. The selection
of entertainers for 2009 was harder than usual because several acts that we
have had in the past were unavailable or just did not respond to our invitation
to send us a bid this tear. However, we were able to reach agreement among
the acts that did respond and we think that the line-up will please all who
attend. Several other items were
discussed including reaffirming that SFOA is primarily a Parrot Head Social
Event with its secondary purpose to raise monies for the Charities of the four
sponsoring Clubs.
SFOA
Charity Selection
Speaking
of Club Charities, at the June meeting we had several visitors in to talk about
their Charity’s functions to aid the Club in deciding who we will select as our
2009 SOFA Charity. We had representatives
from the following organizations speak to us:
Don Moore, Potentate of the Abba Shrine
Center Mobile Alabama. Don and other members who accompanied him
spoke primarily about their Transportation Unit
.

Don Moore and Casi Callaway Speak For Charity
Casi Callaway, Executive Director of the
Mobile Baykeeper. Casi spoke about the variety of issues facing the
Mobile Bay Watershed.
Patrick Collins, Executive Director for The Home of Grace for Women of Baldwin County. Patrick described the resident programs offered by a caring
facility dedicated to helping women plagued by an addiction to alcohol or
drugs.

Patrick Collins Representing Home Of Grace
These Charities, along with others that
we are familiar with, will be the ones considered for the Club’s SFOA 2009
Charity. We will be sending out details
about the selection of our charity very soon.
